Rucksack Drawings (2020-)
This portfolio examines and explores the theme of agency in visual art and considers the means through which mark-making is achieved. Taking drawing as the most immediate form of mark-making, the following pieces consider how the action of applying mark to a ground can be manipulated to explore concerns of chance, intention and indeterminacy.
By devising and adapting new and existing systems and strategies of mark-making, the following pieces employ and harness various means of movement, force and agency to create intimate and sensitive transcriptions.
Rucksack Drawings explore strategies of agency through the deployment of kinetic energy. The works provide transcriptions of the intervention of agency through forces of wind and walking. Rucksack Drawings employ the use of a bespoke drawing platform positioned in a rucksack to capture the motion and movement of walking
